We are Liz Godoy and Brenden Beu. Before The Tablets was realized, we met and were active in the San Diego underground scene, moved to Brooklyn, where Liz started writing and composing what became our self-titled LP, then Paris, and now we're in London.
Liz grew up in Tijuana and culiacan, listening to Mexican songwriters, and that seeps through, alongside 60s garage pop, dark 80s new wave, and whatever else feels right at the time. Liz's vocals and (sometimes) Farfisa sit against Brenden's wall of sound guitar. Tomorrow it might sound completely different.
Our debut LP The Tablets was followed by an EP called Ground, a series of three double-sided flexi-disc singles, and most recently Fall Triptych—three previously unreleased tracks from different stages that felt appropriate to finally release. There was a long hiatus when cities and life got in the way. WNYC Soundcheck, Brooklyn Vegan, Impose, and week in pop (to name a few) have written lovely words about our music. We headlined Bicycle Film Festival in Mexico City, played Fashion's Night Out during NYFW, and other shows that feel like a lifetime ago.
Our influences are scattered—girl-pop, distorted instrumentation, memories of Mexican radio—and people seem to hear different things in it. We make music that feels like a guessing game, even to us sometimes.
